Re: Help
Sun 25 May 2008 02:26hi kaz,
im a bit puzzled too, unless your son has some sort of genetic condition? has he been tested for anything?I would think it a bit early to say a 9 week old has LD unless very specific reasons.
but, hey, im not a doctor! But anyway- you will cope honey.
i have 4 kids and the youngest two aged 9 and 11 have severe LD with fragile x synsrome, autism, epilepsy, adhd, heart murmur and complex tourettes,
you will manage to deal with it but first u need to get your head round it and find out a smuch as you can about their condition (eg what has caused their sld) and that all takes time.
its like a grieving process.
plus you have a new baby too- thats wnough on its own to deal with.oh bless ya, my heart goes out to you all.
be strong- trust me, things will get easier and better as time goes by...

Mon 26 May 2008 17:38Hi Kaz
So sorry that you are having a tough time.
May I ask what sort of disability your eldest son has, and what sort of disability they think your baby son has ? It's the not knowing that is the worst part. Once you have been told you both will find a certain strength to help you cope.
I thought my world had ended when my Daughter was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome, but hey I am still here to tell the tale 40 years later.
Keep your chin up both of you.Alice

Re: Help
Mon 26 May 2008 18:15yeah alice my oldest son was only diagnosed with a severe learning disability, my both sons were born by emergency c section and they were both born floppy, this why i got told my youngest son has LD. and they found out that my husband and 2 sons have a chromosone abnormality but said its not the cause of my 2 sons disability. ?? so if they cant find anything genetic then its the birth i had with 2 of them, they both were stuck in my pelvis my first son i was left 18 hours before they sectioned me and my 2nd son was 12 hours before they sectioned me and the way they pull them babies out is disgusting. no wonder he is floppy and no wonder he has a LD.

Re: Help
Mon 26 May 2008 19:28did they say what chromosome disorder it is? I would be inclined to ask.
then at least you can look it up and make your own conclusions about if it has caused anything.
i know of parents of kids with fragile x who were told it wouldnt cause any problems and that non on the other family need testing!!!!!!!

Tue 27 May 2008 09:20Aw kaz ((((hugs)))) to you and your new baby and congratulations too!
We all have difficulties here but you do find a way to get by!
My own situation is I care for my husband who has severe epilepsy and when my son was little he had seizures too. It's not easy but it's amazing how we find the strength and we do manage!
Enjoy your new baby and try not to worry too much as what will be, will be, so try and stay positive and enjoy the little steps a new baby brings!marie x
