What Benefits

I have had to finish my Job as a carer and I now look for my wife on a full time basis. We were already getting Attendance Allowance and my wife gets Pension Credit.
My partner is 71 years old and I am over 20 years younger.
On checking it was possible for me to claim Carers Allowance and today I have just received notification that I am able to get Carers Allowance, however it is not being paid from the date I claimed from 3 March this year due to my partner getting pension credit, however, they are paying the pension credit and attendance allowance at the same rate to her and my carers allowance from this week.
We have been living off about £130 per week for the last 2 months. Anyone any ideas as to why I am not getting the money from the claim date?

morning hal

i had the same problem when i had to give up work to be a carer for my hubby. The reason they gave me was that i had earned too much money during the tax year and so i wasnt entitled to carers allowance. I have had to re claim after the end of the tax year when my earning will be nil. my hubby only has dla (high rate care and mobility) and at the moment we are getting slightly more income support until carers allowance is sorted. I hope it helps.
best wishes
