Hi,

Does anyone know if celiacs can affect epilepsy. My OH is suffering from symptoms similar to those of celiacs and it does run in his family. He cant eat as it goes straight through him and he ends up with sever cramps. At first we thought it may have been due to the medication, but we just dont know. Have started giving him dioralyte.

hi

my son has coeliacs but as far as i aware it has no effect onepilepsy. the best thing to do is speak tpo your gp. As long as he eats a gluten free diet he will get better, my son was very ill until he started on his diet. try contacting the coeliacs website for any fortherr information www.coeliac.co.uk

hope this helps.

Hiya Smile emoticon a friend of mine had financial help with her benefits for 'special dietry needs' you must have a diagnosis and be able to prove that a gluten free diet is what he needs, try giving the odd item of gluten free and note the transit time and physical effects ie spasms. katew is right if indeed your OH does have coeliacs a gluten free diet is the only thing that will help expensive as it is which is why you can get extra benefit for it, dont know if you get a flat standard rate or income based rate though. Some symptoms for coeliacs do mimic those of irritable bowel syndrome so be careful, sorry have no clue if it has any effect on epilepsy. Good luck Smile emoticon

hi again

sorry EL i was told that i was entitled to no financial help fro dla for this condition. The only help i get is some items (not all by a long means) on prescription from GP. my son has had this condition for 8 years now and i have tried to get dla on a number of occasions.
Many supermarkets have gluten free sections now ASDA is a brilliant place and by far the cheepest.
