First off would just like to say hello to you all.
I'm a single mum with 3 kids in manchester, i "care" for my eldest
My daughter has epilepsy, behaviorial problems and suspected asd, i've finally got around to requesting a carers assesment, have a vague idea of what to ask for. What do other people ask for?

Re: carers assesment
Thu 17 Apr 2008 22:20Hi Ann,
I would first think about what respite you would like- although it is respite for your daughter it also is for you and for your other children.
secondly i would ask about young carers association for your other children- mine went when they were younger and had a ball, doing all sorts of activities and even a weekend away camping once- gives them a break.
also if you work you need to say how that can cause difficulties and how they could support you.
you could ask about being referred to support groups for either other carers, or carers of children the same as your daughter.
you could ask to be referred to someone who could help you learn how to deal with and manage difficult/violent behaviour (if that is the situation)cant think of much else- im tired and its late! but im sure others on here will advise you more.
good luck
Kerry
