My mother has cared for my nan now for 18 years of which she has lived with her for 13 years now. Unfortunalty my mums health took a turn for the worst 2 years ago and we finally began to get some help from the local council and occasional respite care for my nana. However, Nana didnt like the respite and made my mum suffer when she came out that we had to stop putting her in as it was too much for both of them.

My mum is now very near breaking point mentally, unfortunaly it all happened over easter so there was no-one available to get advise from.

I live 450 miles away from my mum and cant help her as much as either of us want, but im scared of losing my mum because of her health.

We discussed as a family and although its not going to easy for either mum or nana need to get nana put in anursing home before my mum has a complete breakdown.

It took 11 years before people stepped in to help I cant let that happen again. How do i ensure that the correct steps are taken quickly to help us try and help my mum?

We are desperate as we didn't know things were this bad as she didnt tell us she was having mental health issues as she was embarrassed, surely someone, GP- couseller etc. should have told family members of her mental state? and given us time to resolve this without waiting till things blew up?

Hi Laura, sorry to hear of your troubles, unfortunately it's usually at a big crisis point that other family members find out how bad things really are. Sad emoticon

If you've already had some input from social services care, you should be able to contact the same workers again.

I guess, you now need to be really strong and battle the system for the help your family need and it's not easy. Angry emoticon

Let's be honest, if social services can get away with doing little or nothing, they will!!
It's not fair, but then again, with regards to care, things seldom are Sad emoticon

Carers need to fight tooth and claw to get the help they need!

Here, there is an out of hours emergency social services team, I'm not sure how effective they are but there is a phone contact - maybe there's something similar in your area?

(((Hugs))) chin up, keep strong!
