goverment targets

How many times have you heard when dealing with services that government targets have to be achieved. That they come from the government and not from the people at the ground level!
That is us the carers/parents we should be the one setting these targets as it us who have to live with the every day consequences of the forever circle of mistakes that these government targets are meant to achieve.
Am I alone in thinking like this?

Re: goverment targets
Mon 24 Mar 2008 13:43its the same tho with any govt targets: its the people who matter the least: the same with ofsted reports, its the kids, the same with pensions its the elderly and so on....
we matter too little to be in on how to decide govt targets!

Re: goverment targets
Mon 24 Mar 2008 14:04Your right there no matter where we turn they seems to be targets aimed at us little people.
I think am just going through a usual carers fed up phase. Were going through the individual budget and I might just be about to pull the plug from conintuing along that path. Reason being I have been alocated for my son half the budget which is currently being used for the services which he is receiving. Yet, as us carers already have enough on our plates in managing life on an exstremely tight budget to start with I am refusing to do it for the local authority as well. I know eventually there will be brokerages available but even then will each individual get what they need as that is the whole point of it.
I also have been told while assessing the individual budget a carers assessment is not used to decide upon how much is needed. That means us carers are going to be neglected once again it is really got me thinking
Only benefit is that it would allow my son to have choices to a better quality life but its got me confused how the local authority expect me to do it for half the cost!
Sorry for ratteling on but am really mixed up about the whole thing just now...... am I doing the right thing for my son or am I just going along with the flow as I usually do ......... maybe I have had enough and going through a carers burn out
