disability discrimination

Booked a hol for haven, wouldnt bother for ourselves but siddie loves the characters etc.

explained we could only bring one mattress protector (we only have 2 each and one on the bed) and that they take ages to dry etc so could they please provide something to protect mattresses (for their sakes not ours), as it would not be fair to expect us to spend the entire holiday in the launderette washing a mattress cover over and over.

the answer was no and "we dont mind if your boys soil the mattresses once but anymore and we wont be happy".
Also that we would be charged for damages.
(presumably from the boys DLA)
I said ;Oh right, well no problems then, Ill just explain to the boys that they are only allowed to dirty once but anymore and we are in trouble', and presumably the boys will go 'Oh Okeydokes ma, no worries, we will just make sure we only wet the bed once then'.

(OMG I couldnt even speak at this point as my mouth was on the floor)

well this conversation escalated into what was tantamount to bloody anarchy.
I was getting more and more peed off with the attitude and the B**tch on the end of the phone (who apparently was in a wheelchair herself so should know better) was continuing to be dismissive, patronising, arrogant and downright bloody rude.
in the end she threateningly told me she would be "informing the park of our conversation!"

To be honest i was so upset and actually cried with frustration which is not like me.
It was just the total lack of tolerance and understanding- and this from a holiday centre who apparently support the genes for jeans campaign!!!!

next a guy from the actual park rang, wanting to know what the boys disabilities were as they needed to know if they could 'allow' them to come to their holiday park....
(like theyre considering giving us a freebie not one that cost £250 for 3 days)

well, i was so gobsmacked my mind went temporarily numb and before i could recover he was chatting on about how bad is their autism etc. My answer was how long is a piece of string.
he said he was asking as the chalets are not too big and 'some autistic children can be active'
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA....
I said oh well shall we talk about the severe ADHD now then, or do u want to do that after the tourettes, fragile x, epilepsy etc.......
he was flumoxed then! lol
I mean talk about teaching yer grandma to suck blooody eggs. hes telling me what autism is.

the culmination was that they would arrange for the mattress covers to be cleaned everyday.
easy peasy really.
Now why this could not have been said by the stupid tart in hemel hempstead head office is beyond me.
she obviously wasnt employed for her affinity with the clients or diplomacy skills.
in fact she was probably employed simply because she is in a Wchair and they have to fit the critireria of employing so many disabled.

in other words so they look the part!!!!!!
Just dont ask them for anything so complicated as a mattress cover for your disabled children.
naturally we feel like telling them to shove their poxy holiday where the sun dont shine but sid would be unbearable.
once again, because of their disabilities we are made to feel like dirt and it is only because of their disabilities that we are going there anyway.

Hi Keighleys mum
well funnily enough i hd started writing a letter of complaint to head office before the guy rang me.
But one thing he said that they cant provide mattress covers cos of health and safety! (Obviously its healthier to sleep in a mattress that someone else had peed on/vomited on or worse the week before!
so i rang my mate who works at a leisure park in norfolk and shes looking into it for me but said that her place provide covers if requested.
their only complaint would be if someone soiled and didnt mention it and then they would send a letter asking for costs of mattress which is fair enough.

I so wanna say stick yer holiday up yer jacksie but my siddie would lose the plot- he hasnt stopped talking about it already and we got over 2 weeks yet before we go lol.

be interesting to see what the outcome of my mates enquiries are but i aint letting it go dont worry- im too angry and upset about it. Crying emoticon Angry emoticon
