I help out an old school friend whoo receives Income Support and D.L.A. Since I have room in my home since my grown up sons have left home it would be nice to have company and help each other out but I am concerned about the affect on my friends benefits. At present he has Housing Benefit and Council Tax too.

Re: cost of caring
Mon 7 Jan 2008 16:34hiya, i think if he comes 2 u as lodger he will still recieve his benefit , but if he is moving in 4 u 2b is carer? he will lose that but you can claim carers allowance. they will only pay housing benefit / council tax if he is paying rent,if you arnt claiming benefit you will gain from your friends rent , his d.L.A wont change where ever he lives , i think his income support wont be affected as long as he s your tenant. you can contact the benefits agency 4 free advice . xx
