My father has severe communication difficulties as he has Aphasia. He gets tired easily but I consider him quite capable of making decisions for himself if the information is presented in an appropriate way adn that he is given time to absorb it.
At present he is in hospital awaiting a community bed for rehab after a suspected mini-stroke. What I would like to know is, after completion of rehab can they force him to go into a care home against his wishes?
My concern is that if they consider after rehab that he is not fit to be at home - I have been his carer for 7+ years that last two of those 24/7 - can he insist he be looked after at home with appropriate back-up in place or can the hospital over-ride his wishes and/or that of the Carer and insist he goes into a home?

Wed 26 Dec 2007 21:28The short answer is NO. No one can force either you or your father to go somewhere or do anything that you do not want to. Having said that they will try and it will be up to you to dig your heels in and not allow them to bulldoze you into anything. I`m afraid they will probably try emotional blackmail but they cannot force you. Good luck.
