Has anyone got any tips for dealing with SAD. My husband, who has brain damage is refusing to get out of bed until midday (complicated reasons). As he needs 24/7 care by the time I've got him up, dressed etc there's hardly any daylight left and anyway it's too wet and cold. I'm feel like a very depressed mole? Any tips anyone? Has anyone tried a light box? Is it worth splashing the cash?

Hi Angelica
I bought a light box 3 years ago, after many miserable winters, and having to take antidepresants in the winter.
With SAD, which is recognised as type of depression, I used to get into this vicious circle of not being able to wake up in the morning.
I'd get up late, still take ages to actually "wake up", go to bed late, because I'd got up late, so on and so on. Which sounds very much like what is happening to you and your husband. It definately made a tremendous difference, I haven't needed pills to get me through the winter since using it.
Apparently it works by the extra bright light activating certain brain chemicals that affect our mood. One thing it definately does as well (even if your not suffering with SAD depression)is get rid of that early morning dozyness which in my case used to last until midday or early afternoon.
Funnily enough I spotted one the other day in the Argos catalogue which is described as a
Beauty Works daylight (box), page 1385 item no 21, £59.99.
It doesn't say its for SAD, but it looks identical to the one I have.
(Mine is called a Happy Light and is made by a germany company called Celta.)Argos have another one on page 1365, item no 7, which is the alarm clock type, never tried one them so can't say how effective it would be.
Its best to get the highest "luminas" or "lux" I think its called. The higher the luminas/lux, the less time you need to spend in front of it.
Google "light box" for more info.
