Re: adhd and epileptic son
Wed 28 Nov 2007 12:58Hi!
I have had to take off the personal email address that was given out as we encourage everyone to protect their anonymity on the boards. If you do want to get in touch with a contact on here then you can email web@carers.org and we will gladly set this up for you, as long as both parties are happy with it!
Hope this helps!!
Thanks

Re: adhd and epileptic son
Sat 5 Jan 2008 15:22Hi Litlun
I know part of what your dealing with as i have a son and a partner who are both ADHD. There are some great support groups out there for parents/carers of people with ADHD you can find them on www.adders.org plus many more online facilites which can give you some guidance and support when you need it most.
It is a very difficult disorder to explain to others who don't really know much about it but here there are lots of people who are happy to listen when you need to let off some steam. If your son is not currently on medication this maybe a route to consider, possibly play therapy or maybe even cognitive behavioural therapy along with medication does help but obviously you will need to talk about it with your son's psychologist. It may not seem like it but believe me, as someone who has been there for the last few years and is still there now, it does get easier and the stress of it all does become less but remember to try and keep calm when your son is getting hyper as adhd kids/adults do look for attention , this usually comes as negative attention for bad behaviour. I'm sure you are doing the best you can with your son given the situation but don't neglact yourself, easier said than done I know, but even if it's only taking 30 mins out of the day for yourself it makes the world of difference. If you want to email me for support please do, you are not alone.
Keep smiling, you're doing gr8!
