Is there a lobby or action group pushing for us carers to get more cash? I am told so often to take a break but what with?
I cant afford to save from what i get.

Thu 22 Nov 2007 16:40I think it is their idea of a joke. When we cant eat properly, pay bills and have to have our heating off, a holiday, what is that its a joke going around methinks or somebody with a very odd sense of humour

Re: the insult we get
Thu 22 Nov 2007 18:40And when you try,and try, and try your best to combine work with care and no-one listens - and then when you have to give up work and your savings have all used up - well, you are expected to grovel for Income Support! And what is paid to carers is not enough to pay the bills.
Tell me about it!!! I an expected to live on £86 per week. If I were a pensioner with no-one to care for, I would get a minimum of £119 per week. But because I choose to look after my Mum and thus save this country £87 billion per year, I am treated like a slave. If it weren't for us carers, the 'bed-blocking' problem would be impossible to to control!
Yes, there ARE carers who are trying to form a lobby/action group to press the government for a genuine 'fair deal' . The charities who support carers - including PRTC - are doing a marvelous job, but they have their hands strapped by charity law.
Do keep your eyes on 'Make your voice heard' on this site - available through 'site map' at the top of the page.

Re: the insult we get
Fri 23 Nov 2007 08:40had a look at gov's create a petition. as i am new, i have not been able to partake in previous. looking at the list of petitions, i see that there are many issues affecting many people. If it could be simplified eg- Carers need more support/services/ or please review the carers charter. By stating something that covers everyone, we could get more hits for one petition than many individual complaints.
If we could find a statement that could cover all, it could be a good score for us. (Not that they listen)
PS. has anyone looked up the etymology of democracy......
demokratia-Common people...power-rule.

Re: the insult we get
Fri 23 Nov 2007 20:48i agree with all thats been said above. on wednesday this week i attended a drs appointment when i was weighed i had lost 2lb short of 2stone,both dr and nurse said brilliant keep doing whatever it is your doing, then asked what diet i was following,i replied the income diet, when i said i can't afford to eat properly they looked at me stupid,as i also have only £86.00 a week to live on.
i know pensioners have a hard time but at least they get the heating allowance. which some spend on other things, and thats not being disrespectful, but lets all of us on low income get help too.

Re: the insult we get
Fri 23 Nov 2007 21:39On top of everything my local council (Fife) are going to be charging £11 per hour per carer as of January 7th and if you dont get means tested then you have to pay the lot. This may well be the straw that breakes my back.
