Hi everyone, I care for my mum in her own home, I live with her, social services are coming tomorrow with a representative from age concern to discuss direct payments.
Can anyone advice me on the following:
1. Can I receive direct payments as I am daughter who lives with mum?
2. Is there any particular bonus to taking direct payment instead of taking social services care?
3. Where can I buy care in from with the direct payment?
Any advice on this would be really useful,
thanks Ann

Re: Direct Payments
Tue 5 Jun 2007 08:39Sorry Anne, didnt really explain properly, was tired, you can be the person responsible for the direct payments, however, you cannot be a paid person as you live in the same house, you can employ carers to provide the care that your mother needs. It gives you more control over the care that you want for your mother, however, it does involve paperwork and you have to find your carers. Agency's can provide this and you pay their bills. When asking for the direct payments, you will need to ask for more hours than you will need as you dont always get the amount you ask for! i have direct payment s for my son who has learning disabilites and i find it great! Your package can include help with the wages, the tax, ect. so dont be put off. there is help out there. But , you will not be able to get paid for what you do, you can pay someone else though! Crazy i know.... hope this helps...

Re: Direct Payments
Tue 5 Jun 2007 17:48Thanks Susannah, had advisors out today and they said same as you but up to social services managers discretion if they want they can make special circumstance for relative living with caree to be one paid. Example was if caree was foreign and couldnt understand offered carers from agencies etc.
I just want mum to have best care but was shocked to be told it could be £280 per week for carers, wish I had known about this when I cared for my father but didnt live with him!!
Thanks again Ann xx
