After u stop being a carer (in this case relationship breakup not death of cared for person) how long does carers allowance continue for eg how many weeks.

Thu 31 May 2007 12:25AFAIK, it doesn't, at all, not one penny.
AFAIK only death of your caree (while you're still a carer) gets you the 8 week continuation.
So pick yourself up, dust yourself off, get advice (don't believe what Jobcentre Plus or DWP tell you, get it from the CAB), the forms filled in & sent off asap, and prepare for a bumpy landing.
You will (unfortunately) be expected to be immediately available for fulltime work unless you're medically retired, disabled, over retirement age or the single parent of children under approx 12. It's not kind, but that's the way that it is.
