LAUNCH OF CARERS STRATEGIES

During National Carers Week, Swindon Borough Council hosted the launch of the Adult Carers Strategy and the Young Carers Strategy

Deb Bignell, our Development Manager, chaired the meeting which was organised by Angela King from Social Services and Julie Pett from Swindon Primary Care Trust.

These three wrote the Adult Strategy having obtained via carer views on necessary improvements to services which would both support and acknowledge the role and responsibilities carers have.

At the launch two young carers, both representatives of the Young Carers Forum, spoke about the issues identified by Young Carers.

Bill, a member of Swindon Carers Network's Learning Disability Planning Group, spoke about the Adult Carers Strategy and the issues facing older carers.

Jan Stubbings, Chief Executive of Swindon Primary Care Trust and Group Director of Community, Housing and Social Care formally launched the two Strategies and highlighted the top level support which will be given by Swindon Borough Council and Swindon Primary Care Trust to improve carers' lives.

The action plans for the Adult Strategy will be implemented and monitored by a newly established Carer Partnership Board. The Young Carers Strategy is overseen by the Young Carers Steering Group.
