Caring will be on the agenda when newly-elected Reading Mayor Peter Beard visits The Princess Royal Trust Carers Service on Friday (June 20) at 10.30am.
Local people who care for a sick or disabled partner, relative, friend or neighbour who can't manage without their support will be on hand to chat to Mr Beard about the difficulties they face each day.
He will be joined at the Carers Centre in Cross Street, Reading, by Richie Molloy, the Mayor of Clonmell, Ireland, who has a personal interest in carers’ issues.
John Shaw, chief executive of the Carers Service, said the visit would give Reading carers the chance to share their experiences of caring.
He said: “Most carers receive little, if any, recognition for the truly invaluable work they do and we are delighted that Mr Beard will be joining us to talk to carers about the impact caring has on their lives.
“Caring can be a rewarding experience but it can impose a strain. Many carers are still unaware of how to get the practical help they need to make their lives easier. Our service gives carers the opportunity to meet with people in a similar situation and find out about what can be done to support them in their caring role.”
The Princess Royal Trust Carers Service provides information and support to carers through a telephone helpline - 0118 950 5177, via email helpline@prtberks.plus.com, home visits and appointments.
