Council Social Care Services are responsible for supporting vulnerable adults and their carers and children in need and their familes. They arrange care and support services for adults and children who are vulnerable because of age, physical or learning disabilities or long-term health problems (including mental health). Help might be with personal care, aids, equipment and adaptions, home and day care services and respite care.
Council care services also have a legal responsibility to assess the needs of carers who are providing regular and substantial care. A Carer’s Assessment can be undertaken even if the person you are looking after does not want to accept any social care services. The Carer’s Assessment looks at the impact caring has and any help that might be available to support you in your caring role.
