Carers' Support (Ashford)
Carers' Support have worked extremely hard to develop the Carers' Centre at Norman House. The new centre will provide an opportunity for talk and meet sessions as of September.
Introducing our Services
General Support Groups and Drop-ins
If you look after a friend or relative who is ill or disabled or you have a child with special needs, then why not join us and meet others in a social group.
The groups offer the opportunity to have regular social contact with other carers in an informal and friendly environment. It is also a good way of accessing support, information and useful tips to help with the difficulties that often arise in the daily life of a carer. A member of staff attends the groups to offer a listening ear, support, practical information and as a link to other support that may be beneficial to you.
There are presently drop-ins in Ashford, Hythe, Folkestone and New Romney for any carer to come along to.
A specific support group for carers whose "cared for" has Alzheimer's or Dementia is held in New Romney once a month.
Befriending and Tele-Befriending Schemes
These schemes provide a service that offers support and friendship to carers on a "one to one" basis.
Both befrienders and tele-befrienders are volunteers who are trained, vetted and CRB checked. Befrienders make regular face-to-face contact and tele-befrienders make regular contact by telephone, with isolated carers who sign up for the service. They offer the carers a confidential listening ear, support and friendship.
Kent Carers' Emergency Card
The Kent Carers' Emergency Card provides carers with peace of mind when they are away from the person they care for. One of the main concerns carers tell us they have when leaving the person they look after is what would happen if they were taken ill or involved in an accident.
The Carers' Emergency Card enables immediate access to pre-arranged planned care, giving the carer the peace of mind they need.
Young Carers' Support
Carers' Support runs a project called Young Carers' Support. It offers support to carers between the age of 6 and 18 in the Ashford, Shepway, Dover and Deal areas of Kent.
Schools development workers attend many schools within the area identifying and supporting young carers.
Throught the year, respite opportunities and workshops are organised for the young carers enabling them to meet their peers, build their self-esteem and confidence building.
It is an impartial and confidential service that provides young people with information, advocacy and respite.
Young people are referred in a variety of ways, by social services, other agencies and self-referral.
Norman House
Norman House has meeting, training rooms available to hire and pleased to confirm we have 30 parking spaces so there should be no concerns regarding accessibility and with kitchen facilities we are able to provide refreshments for you to enjoy and help create a warm and welcoming environment. Stree free, taking away the weight from your shoulders.
Norman House is named after the Norman Cycles' factory that was sited on this estate. Some of the original buildings still survive today, Norman House is not one of the original buildings.
In memory and respect for the workforce that once worked on this site and the part they played in the history of British motor cycle manufacture we have named our rooms and catering plans after some of the motor cycles.
For further details on all the above please contact the office Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
