A Carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, friend,or family member who needs help to manage on their own because they are ill, disabled or elderly and frail.

Many Carers do not think of themselves as a 'Carer'. They just do what needs to be done to help someone they care for to live as independently as possible in the community. Carers may also be juggling paid work with their caring responsibilities.

The 2001 Census revealed 600,000 adult Carers in Scotland of whom 8000+ live within Stirling Council Area. Almost 2000 of these Carers are looking after someone for more than 50 hours each week. There are an estimated 150,000 Young Carers in Scotland, of whom 2500 live within Stirling Council Area, – young people up to the age of 18years old who are helping to look after a parent, sibling or other relative.

Stirling Carers Centre is managed by Carers Forum Stirling Area, Registered Charity No: SC020213 & Company Ltd by Guarantee No: SC165487
