John Lowrie Morrison will return to Kranenburg Fine Art in Oban with his annual exhibition and will donate five per cent of all proceeds to The Princess Royal Trust North Argyll carers’ centre. Although John exhibits all over the world, this will be his biggest exhibition of the year, attended by prospective buyers from all over the UK.
The exhibition will be opened by Jim Mather MSP on Friday 19 October at 6pm and John will be present to meet guests and discuss his work until 9pm
John, who signs his work ‘jolomo’, is one of Scotland's best-loved artists. His new exhibition, ‘Roving among the Hebrides’, includes landscapes and seascapes in dazzling, fiery colours and atmospheric, muted tones for which he is famous internationally.
John says: ‘The theme and title of the show leapt out of the pages of Boswell’s diary, which I read while on holiday at Torloisk on Mull this summer. Boswell said: "If this not be roving among the Hebrides ... then what is?” - and that was my inspiration for the exhibition.’
Described by The Scotsman as ‘Scotland’s most successful artist’, John has exhibited in the UK, America and Hong Kong and his paintings are included in collections held by Sting, Madonna and the Duke of Argyll.
John and his wife, Maureen, are Patrons of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. As long term carers themselves, John and Maureen understand the stresses and strains that carers face on a daily basis and they are long term supporters of the Trust’s work to support carers all over Scotland.
Ruth Moody, Manager of The Princess Royal Trust North Argyll carers’ centre, says: ‘The carers’ centre in Oban, both staff and carers, are grateful to John for the kind donations over the years. The additional money has enabled us to sustain and develop services for the area. At present we are looking to develop mental health carer support and parent carers’ support and any money we receive through donations will assist us in this aim. We wish John every success with this new, exciting exhibition’.
