Claire Pearson - South Lanarkshire Council - Social Worker supporting Family Carers of Adults with Learning Disabilities

Claire has been in post just over 2 years; her work is very varied and the aims of the post are to: increase the support offered to carers, raise awareness of carers issues and to support older carers in making plans for the future.Over the last two years (working with carers and colleagues) Claire has been working on the following:

A planned approach to supporting older carers in planning for the future.
Developing an electronic version of recording future planning.
Drawing up a carers mailing list so that carers can be reached.
Contributing to a carers newsletter with a new learning disabilitiy section.
Organising workshops on such topics as legal issues and housing options.
Emergency planning for carers.
Developing a resource pack around future planning.
Promoting carers assessments
One to one visits to family carers where apporpriate
Involving carers in the teaching and social work students
Addressing the health issues of older family carers.
