CARER ASSESSMENTS
You are a carer if you support a relative, spouse, partner or friend who cannot manage on his or her own. You do not have to live with the person, nor do you have to be the only person doing the caring.
Carers have the right to ask for an assessment under the Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000. An assessment gives you the chance to make sure that Social Services understands your needs. It is not about judging the way you care for someone.
