For some carers, a career in the care profession would be the last thing they wanted.
However, for those carers who may be interested in developing a career in care, a new scheme is being developed by North Tyneside Council.
Starting in September 2009, "Launch in 2 Social Care" will run over 8 weeks in 3 hour sessions.
Specifically for carers, learners will gain an understanding of principles of social care, explore values and beliefs; cover health and safety, communication skills; and what constitutes abuse and neglect.
Upon completion of this programme, learners will be able to apply for volunteer trainee schemes which will offer practical experience within a local authority establishment; leading to a recognised level 2 qualification.
This is a qualification which can enable learners to gain employment in social care.
