Nexus is introducing a new pass called Companion Card available to existing TaxiLink members from 1st August 2008. This card will allow those with mobility problems to take someone with them free of charge when they travel on public transport in Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Northumberland.
So if someone needs to take a companion with them in order to be able to use public transport, and they normally have to buy a ticket, they no longer need to - as long as the cared for have their Companion Card with them.
Companion cards are only being offered to TaxiLink members at the moment.
