Northampton Carers Centre

If you are looking after a relative or friend of any age who -

  • Has a mental health problem
  • Has a physical disability
  • Has a learning disability
  • Has an alcohol/drug addiction
  • Has HIV or AIDS
  • or is elderly or frail

then you are a Carer

You may be a parent, wife, husband, partner, daughter, son, friend or neighbour - but you are also a carer. Or you may know someone who is.

You may be providing some or all of the following -

  • Personal care for a child or adult
  • Health care
  • Support with mobility
  • Domestic tasks
  • Rehabilitation
  • Supporting emotional needs of the person you look after

Carers come from all walks of life and all communities in Northamptonshire.

Northampton Carers Centre is staffed by people who understand the physical and emotional strain that looking after someone can involve -as well as the pleasure it can bring. We can be contacted at:

Northampton Carers Centre team include Carer Advisers, Young Carer Workers and a Black and Asian Carer Support Worker. They coordinate outreach and support groups for Northampton and the south of the county.

Northampton Carers Centre provides a confidential service to support the needs of carers, supplying information about issues that concern carers most, including -

  • Benefits advice
  • Carer support groups and monthly coffee mornings
  • Emotional support to carers who are feeling distressed, isolated or unable to cope
  • Information on various illnesses and disabilities
  • Information on taking a break, holidays, respite care, practical help at home, etc.
  • Support and advice during assessment processes
  • Advocacy to help you express your views
  • Social activities
  • And a listening ear on any issue that is concerning you as a carer

Having a person to talk to and having your rights explained may help your situation and listening to your experiences and needs enables us to help you.
