The Princess Royal Trust Bury Carers Centre

Are you a Carer?

A Carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.

Many people do not see themselves as Carers. They think of themselves as relatives or friends. They do what anyone would, caring, unpaid for a loved one or friend, helping them through times when they are unable to do things themselves. As a result they don't realise that there is help and support available for them.

As a Carer, you are legally entitled to a Carers Assessment under the Equal Opportunities Act 2004. The Act seeks to ensure that Carers are identified and informed of their rights, that their needs for education, training, employment and leisure are taken into consideration and that public bodies recognise and support Carers.

Bury Carers Centre will help you if you need further advice or information about support for Carers and will provide support in making a referral for a Carer's Assessment.
