Celebrities

The term 'carer' is often unknown and confused with that of a paid carer. The Princess Royal Trust for Carers is constantly trying to raise the profile of who a carer is, so that many more of the six million in the UK come forward and receive the help and support that is available.

Often their caring responsibilities only come to light when they reach a crisis point, either getting ill themselves or feeling very down. If they had been recognised as carers earlier we could have helped them and the crisis might have been avoided.

One of the key ways we are trying to get carers to recognise themselves is by enlisting the help of prominent figures who are willing to attend photo shoots, launch appeals, boost morale, host events, or speak to the media.

We are very grateful for the support we receive and would like to thank the following:

Pam Ferris

A long time supporter of The Trust with personal experience of being a carer, Pam has helped us in numerous ways, signing appeal letters, launching competitions and even running drama classes for carers. Pam became a Vice President of The Trust in July 2004.

Melanie Sykes

Melanie has helped us fundraise to help carers take a break. She launched our Great Escape for Carers and raised £8000 on celebrity 'Who wants to be a millionaire'.

Danny John Jules (Cat from Red Dwarf)

Danny helped make 1000 carers trip to Pontins even more special by running a drama class. Carers of all ages learnt breathing, concentration and performance techniques. By the end of the day they were onstage performing in the spotlight.

James Martin

James has provided many gorgeous recipes and supporting quotes for our website and fundraising initiatives

Prunella Scales

Prunella brightened up a group of carers recently by running a drama class at the Princess Royal Trust for Carers Wandsworth Carer Centre. The carers performed 'Hobson's Choice' - a play that Prunella knows well as she was in the 1950 film version.
