Care to Walk?
The London Thames Walk kicked off Carers Week on Saturday 6th June 2009 at 10:30am, as once again, hundreds of walkers pounded the streets of the Southbank in aid of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
In its fourth year, people of all ages walked 10 miles taking in the sights and sounds of London’s iconic river bank, starting and finishing outside City Hall. The Walk raised vital funds for the Trust to continue supporting and reaching unpaid family carers who look after a loved-one who is sick or disabled.
The Woman’s Weekly team supported the London Thames Walk 2009. Find out more about the magazine's partnership with The Trust.
24 Hours Carers Portrait Exhibition: 2007 - 2009
© Hannah Hills, 200724 hours is a series of portraits of carers, each one showing the carer seated on the sofa in their own home alongside the person they care for. First launched in 2007, the exhibition is touring museums and galleries throughout Scotland until 2009.
The portraits were taken by Hannah Hills, a rising young star in portrait photography, who says:
"One of the enduring memories from visiting everyone is the laughter and great sense of humour, often in very difficult circumstances. It was a privilege to be involved in this project and to see the work of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers at first hand."

Butlins parachute challenge for carers: November 2008
Imagine standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10,000 feet - the noise of the engines and the wind ringing in your ears with only the outline of distant fields below.
Now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and letting go - falling forward into the clouds, diving down through the air as you start freefalling at over 120mph!
Well Michael Tonks and a team of very brave staff from different departments at Butlins Minehead did just that and parachuted to raise fund for carers.
Most did the jump tandem (with a qualified instructor) but there were four who did the jump solo.
Please help them to make a huge difference….you can donate through their Justgiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/michaeltonks.

No matter who you are you can vote with your feet to help carers.
Are you an elite endurance athlete or does running the tap leave you breathless? Few of us are as fit as we would like to be. But we all feel a little envy when we see the charity runners in events like the Flora London Marathon earning the adulation of thousands of spectators by overcoming exhaustion and self-doubt to cross the finish line. Well done to everyone!
The Tour de Butlins Cycle Challenge: 1 - 6 June 2008
Well they did it!!! The amazing team of cyclists from Butlins are no longer “novices” having completed the 479 miles between all three Butlins resorts.
Having endured torrential rain, blistering sunshine, the wrath of a few motorists and “Cow Poo” our heroes completed the six day challenge in one piece, albeit a tad “saddle sore”. You can read all about their adventures on the tour blog.
En route the team visited three Carers Centres at Sandwell; Gloucester and Salisbury so a big thank you to all the staff, carers, local dignitaries and guests who turned out to support the team and carers.
Thanks also to the extremely generous support of teams at Butlins Resorts as well as our sponsors Profero; Coca-Cola; Garmin; Morrisons; VK Vodka Kick; Atlantic Foods; IHG Hotel Group
The team are well on their way to raising a whopping £20,000. And you can still help them to reach their goal. Click here to sponsor them.
