How To Write A Review

There are no hard-and-fast rules for writing reviews.

Everyone has their own style. But it's worth considering the strengths and weaknesses of your book as well as telling us about the plot and characters. And don't forget to tell us if you loved it or loathed it.

We're looking for no more than 300-500 words - any longer and people might not make it to the end…

Things to remember to put in your book reviews:

Title Reviews should have a good, imaginative title, drawing the reader into wanting to read on. For example: "Riveting If Long Winded Read With Earth Shattering Ending" is more fun than "Book Review of The Bible, By The Apostles".

Background This is a brief bit of research into the book or film. Tell us about the author and their previous works

Synopsis A brief summary of the plot, but don't give away too much about the twists and ending!

Detailed opinions What you thought about the book , the plot, the characters, the writign style, etc. Passages that really stood out, or not, ideas in the story, what did or did not work for you and why. Whether you likes the book, with examples of which bits.

Closing remarks Who the book might appeal to - you might like this book if you liked..., and your final thoughts.
