Carole Cochrane, Chief Executive at The Princess Royal Trust for Carers says: “The Personal Care at Home Bill will be offered only to those with the very highest needs, but at least it’s a start. That said, it would be tragic if political wrangling over the Bill got in the way of the promised White Paper on social care, originally due any day now. Our message to politicians is simple: social care in the UK isn’t provided by the NHS or councils, it’s provided by unpaid family carers. They were promised a White Paper which would make a real difference to their ability to carry on caring, free from the poverty and ill-health that too many suffer. But so far no party has come up with a concrete offer to the UK’s six million carers. No government can afford to take them for granted.”
